Malvern Winds, one of Britain’s most successful amateur wind chamber music courses, is going on tour! Originally set in the beautiful Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, 2019 sees the course set at Woldingham School in Surrey, in an area of outstanding natural beauty and will be a perfect destination to sustain the ethos of the Malvern spirit until we return to a newly refurbished Malvern College in 2020.

For flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn players of Grade 6 to Diploma standard, to play in graded ensembles with expert tutoring by leading performers.

About the Course

The course at Malvern is one of the UK’s most established summer courses for amateur wind players - a chamber music course for those who are seeking an inspirational approach to their music-making. The main aim of the course is to offer a unique approach for all participants, covering a wide range of performance-related skills, with an emphasis on quality music-making 

Features of the course include:

Daily chamber music sessions with groups graded according to playing level and the musical/technical demands of the pieces

Parts for main set works sent out in advance of the course

Instrumental sessions with your specialist tutor

Informal concerts for all participants at the end of the course

Opportunities for Do It Yourself (DIY) sessions with catalogued sheet music library. Standard for pieces can be advised.

Ensemble tuition by five of Britain’s top wind players and a specialist accompanist and leading pianist

Short warm up sessions focusing on breathing, relaxation, good playing posture and other performance techniques

Concerts and talks by tutors and visiting ensembles

Opportunities to explore the Surrey Hills or to visit London
